Review: A Bright Day (feat. Gual Rassi) by Down Beatz

“A Bright Day” is an exciting new release from OBD, a duo consisting of Kawil (rapper and producer) and D-tech (rapper). The pair unleashed a unique blend of synergy, combining modern-sounding hip-hop productions with a timeless sense of energy and warmth, commonly associated with the golden age of the genre.

This time around, Kawil and D-tech set out to join forces with another talented artist, Gual Rassi, who helped them bring this song to life and shares a co-writing credit. The track begins with a soft piano intro and cool cinematic samples from a rainy day. On the other hand, the beat comes to life with huge drums, electric guitars and a massive bass tone, which really helps the vocals jump right at you!

When listening to “A Bright Day,” the first thing you might actually notice is certainly the high quality of this production, in terms of sonic aesthetics. The instrumental mix is balanced and direct, with a really deep low end and a crunchy mid-range that adds a lot of excitement to the track. In addition to that, the treble range is smooth and bright, adding a lot of silky edge to the mix, and allowing the vocals to really pop to the forefront of the mix.

To conclude, I highly recommend giving this one a go, particularly if you are a big fan of old school heroes such as Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan, but also modern icons like Jay Z or Eminem, only to mention but a few. This release channels the spirit of authentic rap, while exploring the genre under a different perspective. Personality is definitely the keyword here, and OBD will earn their spot in your heavy rotation with their upfront character and great hooks.
